A demanding, ambitious mother battles with her sullen, rebellious teenaged daughter over the girl's need for independence. The video image, (which is ever-present) on a television set in each scene, tells a different story of a mother and a daughter. Here, the mother is a protective loving, nurturing woman in traditional Japanese dress who cuddles and strokes the young girl. The realistic setting and dialogue in combination with the formal device of the "video-within-a-video", works the psychological ties that bind a family together, generation to generation.
