Wanting is a three part maze of home movies, nature photography and sound recordings reflecting on the construction of the mythological family.
Memories from growing up in the 1960s and 1970s in my large Catholic family are recontextualized through appropriated 8mm films. Juxtaposing "natural" relationships with cultural rituals, familial bonds are explored while societal norms are questioned. Parental love, sibling rivalry, and their accompanying emotional and psychological terrain's are explored as "species" would be in a TV nature show, studied in the "wilderness" of selfhood and group dynamics. As humour and pain blur through an examination of a variety of power exchanges, "survival" in its many forms is reflected upon.
