Human Bytes

Sandra Hawkins

2000, 02:00 minutes, colour

Digital technology is giving us a limited two- dimensional image of who we are as humans. The punchy rhythm of collaged images combined with the artist’s voice-over tell the story "of the fragmentation of our human identity through digital bytes". Flickering and layered images of mannequins, fire flames, computer cables and monitors, and escalators fill 3/4 of the screen, while simultaneously in the upper left-hand corner there is a window which moves down highway 7 between Ottawa and Carleton Place.
Sounds include percussion instrumental sounds and artist’s voice-over.
