National Anthem

Kinga Araya

2002, 04:30 minutes, colour, English, French, Polish

TAPECODE 507.13

National Anthem deconstructs two politically charged texts: Canadian (French & English) and Polish national anthems. Three male native speakers endlessly correct woman's foreign pronunciations of English, French, & Polish. It seems that the absolute pronunciation of the national texts is represented at its best in the cacophony of 3 languages overlapping female and male recitations. The nonsensical exercises of the mouths problematize the meaning of certain politically charged words.
