Share the Wealth, a 35mm narrative short film, situates a homeless middle-aged Native American woman on a busy city street. Thanks to a new “homeless tax” incurred by the government, she must raise the dollar she now owes. All manner of city folk pass her by and pay her no attention. She finally catches a break when someone hands her a dollar. She joins a long line of other panhandlers and waits her turn to pay her dues.

The film, modeled on a political cartoon, follows the multifaceted relationship this Native woman has with her urban environment and the ways she adapts to her ever-changing circumstances. The crux of the story hinges on her socio-economic “plight” and how it has affected her own sense of community.

Share the Wealth creates an absurd, highly stylized environment where nothing is out of the ordinary, setting one woman’s personal transformation against a backdrop of everyday chaos and uncertainty.
