Body of Evidence focuses on the lascivious gestures of the femme fatale in the dance of seduction, in order to deconstruct this classic film archetype. Culled from hours of found footage this video isolates and edits together those moments in the story where our anti-hero seduces the hero. Edited into short rhythmic sequences of repetition and mimicry these studies serve to enhance the movement and become preoccupied with nuanced detail of every seductive gesture. As with Eve or Oscar Wilde’s famous Salome or more recently Madonna’s character in Body of Evidence (of which the title is a direct reference) the femme fatale is characterized as a wicked, seductive enchantress, of which her sexuality, that is her body, is her ultimate weapon - something exclusive to the female villain.

Body of Evidence was commissioned by Trinity Square Video for the VILLIAN program and premiered at the Revue Cinema, Toronto, Canada - Thursday 12 March 2009.
