Unbashed Heroics

Randy & Berenicci

1982, 20:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 860.04

A collage of vignettes on the senseless heroics of power distorted in love and in hatred. Images of cock fights and mass graves share the screen with heroic posturings and stereotypical clichés of the joys of victory and the agonies of defeat. All sounds ring false, altered. All faces are made unreal through makeup and theatrics. Cities become cardboard sets, toys to be destroyed on the whim of a lottery. A celebration of wide-eyed poetic anarchy.

“With Unbashed Heroics, Randy & Berenicci throw world news to the shredder. Striking classical revolutionary poses before a moving tableau of disaster, the speakers become puppets manipulated by ‘the spectacle of life’. A series of cruel gestures remind us that the shadow of apocalypse has followed humanity forever. Language seems concrete and alien. History becomes a comedy of errors. All’s fair in love and war.”
