My Family and I

Sylvie Boisseau and Frank Westermeyer

1997, 16:00 minutes

TAPECODE 444.00

The film plays with notions of identy. The process of identity formation is represented as a biography which turns into one’s own biography only when one regards it with the alternative in mind. This develops into the subject of the film: What if I had been some other parents’ son.

The families shown are members of Frank Westermeyers’ circle of aquaintances and play themselves as the picture he has of them.

The film is the result of a working process, which startet with the collection of documentary material about the different families. With this background the scenes were developed together with the actors. Documentary and fictional elements combine to form a new narrative form.
