Is HIV really the cause of AIDS or simply a marker for it? What happened to half a million cases of untreated syphilis in North America? Do the standard tests and treatments for syphilis work in people with HIV? Is AIDS really a "new" disease anyway? These and other provocative questions are the subject of this 1995 compilation of the documentary series “The Cause of AIDS: Fact and Speculation”, produced by award-winning Toronto science journalist Colman Jones. The series won both a MacLean-Hunter Lizzie Award (Current Affairs Category), and another from the Ontario Cable Television Association (OCTA), and was subsequently rebroadcast on the Rogers Community cable channels in both Toronto and Vancouver.
