Excerpts from The Queer Story Archive
2014, 19:00 minutes, colour, English
“Excerpts from The Queer Story Archive, 2014”, is a selection of pertinent tidbits from the first two years of collected stories at onmyplanet.ca. In recounting their personal stories, the subjects touch on a wide range of LGBTTQQI2SA issues. Andrew, a young gay man, continues to enjoy his family’s love and wholehearted support. Erik’s family instigated having him officially excommunicated from the Catholic Church after he transitioned. Anna, an opera singer, changed her life completely after her first “pants role”. Lily found the queer “warriors” she didn’t know she was searching for at her first Pride event. Paul who was at that same Pride March, came out at the age of 72. Coming out and becoming one’s self – “Excerpts from The Queer Story Archive” presents a host of discussion topics and plenty of food for thought.
Onmyplanet.ca is a queer and trans positive website that houses The Queer Story Archive. The Archive is an ever-expanding collection of life experience stories on video and in text, from everyone under the rainbow and the people that love us. The site also has a local (BC) online reference and support network. The long term goal of onmyplanet.ca is to create an online workbook for reducing homophobia and transphobia that will incorporate the video stories.
Noted topics/tags: coming out, sexual orientation, gender, transition, LGBTTQQI2SA herstory/history, same sex marriage, body image, family interaction, religion, and the importance of authenticity.
