D'ici là... is a video that was born from the encounter of Guy Woueté & Pedro Ribeiro. Pedro Ribeiro is considered as a mental disable and therefore convicted to spend most of his time and days in a specialised centre for people with mental illness.

In a contest of an exhibition about specialised centres for people with mental illness in Belgium, I was invited to work on the train of thought of Pedro, with Pedro. In the meeting, the discussions we have had and the times we shared, the train of thought of Pedro turned, spread to another place that is outside of the space of the paint workshop at Sesame Centre. Pedro talks about travel, meeting. He is sensitive and open to the life even though he knows that he is (partly) excluded to this life by social conventions, moral / religious underpinning normality. Pedro knows he is different, he knows he is perceived like that. He knows that his space / place in this society is reduced and set to the criteria (and people) that he does not know and does not control... However, Pedro lived fully every moment of insane laughter, he wants things to be “right”!

In this video I use the situation of Pedro as a metaphor to question the daily realities of people from the so-called "Third World" countries and the minorities.
