A live performance that accompanies two video works in the same series.

The objects that appear here are derived from the colour scheme of Pantone’s 2016 Colour of the Year. For the first time two colours ("Rose Quartz” and “Serenity”) were selected and presented as a single colour gradient and used as a trend-forecasting tool. Pantone’s collateral marketing materials explained their decision: "As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colours that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance […] reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

This choice coincided with a palpably tumultuous and chaotic year that would not be made palatable by Pantone's idea of a consumption-driven subjectivity. In addition, this colour pairing was co-opted from existing systems of meaning (most significantly the Transgender Pride flag, as well as the internet subculture known as Vaporwave) and now rendered empty.

This series was produced during an important point in the production timeline of many of these objects, which were being cleared from inventory to make way for the new Colour of the Year. No longer relevant, their capital value dropped by as much as 70% simply by being implicated in this system.
