Nancy Paterson

Nancy Paterson is a Toronto based electronic media artists working primarily in the field of interactive video installations. She is currently Associate Artist at the Bell Centre for Creative Communications in Toronto. She is also an Instructor at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and Facilities Manager at Charles Street Video in Toronto.

Recent exhibitions of her work include the premiere exhibition of an interative installation titled THE MEADOW at the SIGGRAPH 96 Art Show 'The Bridge' in New Orleans (August 1996) and THE MACHINE IN THE GARDEN, at ARS ELECTRONICA (September 1996) in Linz, Austria.

In 1995 her work was included iun numerous Festivals and exhibitions such as NET@WORKS at the centro Nacional de las Artes, Mexico City (October 1995), the INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTRONIC ART, Montreal, Canada(September 1995), and THE PROCESSING OF PERCEPTION at the Wexner/King Centre/COSI, Columbus, Ohio (April 1995).

Other prominent exhibitions include 'Machine Culture' at SIGGRAPH 93 in Anaheim, California, the THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTRONIC ART in Sydney Australia(November 1992), the Canada Pavilion at EXPO 92 in Seville, Spain, and the EUROPEAN MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL in Osnabruk, Germany (September 1990)

Guest lecturing on a variety of subjects, Nancy has spoken at numerous Galleries, Festivals and Universities. Papers which she has written have been published in journals including LEONARDO, PARALLELOGRAMME, and CANADIAN ART. A paper titled 'Lust & Wanderlust: Sex and Tourism in a Virtual World' was published by MEDIA INFORMATION AUSTRALIA in a collection titled 'Feministiche Streifzuge Durch's Punkte - Universum.' And most recently, a paper presented at the SIXTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTRONIC ART, was published in the journal FIREWEED (Summer 1996).
