Bomb Magazine, Fall 2004, no. 89, pp. 31-37

An interview with film-maker Jonathan Caouette on his debut film Tarnation. A poetic self-portrait documentary, Tarnation chronicles Caouette's traumatic childhood growing up in a dysfunctional family in Texas. Shot over the the course of two decades and edited on iMovie, the film creates a "decaying, glitch-filled fever dream of disparate footage" which recalls the likes of Harmony Korie's Gummo. In the interview Caouette talks about his process and how he managed to get this radical the film off the ground.
