CONFESSIONS OF A WEBBACK: Guillermo Gomez-Pena uses the anonymous, open nature of the Net to turn racism into art.

by Evantheia Schibsted

WIRED, Jan. 1996, p. 142

Evantheia Schibsted interviews self-proclaimed "reverse anthropologist" and San Francisco performance artist Guillermo Gomez-Pena about his intercultural work involving the Internet. Assembling cultural stereotypes from confessional website Temple of Confessions (http://www.echonyc.com/~confess/) and stylizing the self-confessed data into invented "Ethnocyborg" characters (i.e. the Mex-Terminator) with artist Roberto Sifuentes, Guillermo challenges pre-existing popular representations of the Latino culture.
