Screen Gems and Screen Trends: The Festival of Festivals has lots of gay material but lesbians are invisible.

by Jeremy Podeswa

Xtra!, Sept. 3, 1993, no. 231

Review of queer produced or focused films at 1993's Festival of Festivals including big budget - Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet, Gus Van Sant's Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and local - Mike Hoolboom's Kanada, John Greyson's Zero Patience. Reviewer Jeremy Podeswa finds that "dykes" are completely invisible in the festival lineup, and comes up with a series of queer trends based on what he sees at the festival. (Queer Trend Number 1: Lesbian film is heading into oblivion.)
