A pianist and a camera make music of the id

by Gary Michael Dault

The Globe and Mail, Apr. 25, 2009

This review considers the new work of Swedish-born artist Gunilla Josephson, entitled E.V.E. Absolute Matrix. The hour-long video is a portrait of pianist Eve Egoyan as she performs composer Alvin Curran’s Inner Cities. Reviewer Gary Michael Dault finds her face mesmerizing, transformed gradually into “a spidery miasma of expressive urgencies.”
