In the summer of 1998 Long Beach Opera Company premiered the La Indian Queen an adaptation of Henry Purcell and John Drydens The Indian Queen. This production was notable for its Latin American perspective on what was originally a classical European opera. In this article Jan Bresler writes on the conception and inspiration of this production. Bresler also interviews creative director Guillermo Gomez-Pena on his experiences creating this radical adaptation.
