Art on TV
Studio International, Jan. 1971, v. 181, no. 929, pp. 30-31
A review of two programmes produced by Gerry Schum and shown nationwide on German television. The first programme, aired on 15 April, 1969 and titled 'Land Art,' featured original work by eight international artists within the discipline called variously land art, earth art, or earthworks - artwork comprised of interventions with physical or natural environments. The second programme, aired on 30 November, 1970 and titled 'Identifications,' included work by twenty artists from six countries, most of which (unlike the previous programme) focus on human presence or action. The reviewer writes that although the quality of work varies greatly in the programmes, the fact that Schum is enabling artists to create work specifically for TV is a major step - especially considering the abysmal quality of art programming on television in general.
