by Janis Croft Williams, Bruce Childs and Arthur Tsuchiya

Afterimage, Nov. 1979, v. 7, no. 4, pp. 4-5

This article is the second part of a group of reviews of videotapes by 1979 winners of fellowships from New York's CAPS (Creative Artists Program Service) program. (The first part appeared in the Summer 1979 issue of Afterimage.) The videotapes were included in a collection of tapes entitled the "CAPS Video Festival" designed to present examples of work by each of the award recipients. In the article Bruce Childs reviews William Wegman's Reel # 7, Anthology, comprised of 15 short segments. Janis Croft Williams reviews Windows, Sums and Differences, Elements, Ring Modulation, and Epilog, by Gary Hill, who uses synthesized imagery to explore everyday subjects. Williams also reviews Yellow Rose Ceremony, Balls, Changes Changing, and Unititled Morning Ritual by Steve Koplan, and Untitled: Selected Works by Ralph Hocking and Sherry Miller, a work that confronts the viewer with video's power to generate images of many kinds. Arthur Tsuchiya reviews Bird's Eye by Mary Lucier.
