New York Council on the Arts Revokes Rochester's TV Workshop Funding

by Lucinda Furlong

Afterimage, Jan. 1982, v. 9, no. 6, p. 3

Funding was rescinded from TV Workshop, an access centre within a PBS station that offered artists and independent producers access to high-quality equipment and experienced broadcast engineers. Complaints from artists that led to the withdrawal of funding included abuse of the facilities by station staff including lack of maintenance and general refusal to cooperate with artists as well as the fact that the station held rights over tapes produced. Despite the high quality work produced, the NYSCA determined grants could be offered to artists through other channels that bypassed the mismanaged Workshop.
