Television Fictions: An Interview with Ed Bowes
Afterimage, May 1986, v. 13, no. 10, pp. 4-7
An interview with Ed Bowes, a video artist who considers himself a dramatist and produces narratives made for television that thematically address the role of television in our lives. His three tapes deal are characterized by issues of sexual ambiguity, long takes and real-time duration, and an obsession with dialogue respectively. Bowes originally turned to video from film for the sake of convenience, as well as a sense that video was visually much better suited to TV, and that any argument to the contrary was culturally rather than aesthetically formulated. He argues against a fine-art context for his work.
