'Alcohol Lake': THe Honour of All: The Alkali Story
Afterimage, May 1987, v. 14, no. 10, pp. 14-15
A review of a social change video project addressing alcoholism created by the Alkali Lake Band in British Columbia. Created specifically as part of a sobriety program for the community, this 3-tape series uses non-narrative techniques to follow the story of two recovering alcoholics, recreating their experiences as a couple, as individuals, and as part of the larger group living on the reserve. Though made by an outsider who was also from a First Nations community, the video project was undertaken independently by the band, who refused assistance from the National Film Board as part of their mission to maintain control over their own recovery.
