Warhol as Filmmaker
Art in America, Jan. 1968, v. 56, no. 1, pp. 48-53
An article surveying Andy Warhol's film work. The article provides a chronological analysis of Warhol's evolution as a filmmaker. Beginning with his still, silent, real-time films of people sleeping for eight hours, or spending 45 minutes eating a mushroom, to his phase experimenting with sound, color, camera-movement, action, narrative and abrupt editing.
The article goes on to analyse the construction of his films throughout these phases, as well as his casting choices and absolutist collaborative tendencies.
