Video Sex: Hot Topic

by Sara Diamond

Video Guide, Dec. 1986, v. 8, no. 4, pp. 1-2

The article is an introduction and preface to articles discussing different and contradictory perspectives on commercial and artist-produced sexual imagery in the video medium. Sexual representation has become a critical concern within Canadian critical thought. The critique of sexual imagery has partly come from the feminist anti-porn movement and has been targeted for state censorship. The process of goverment control had a direct impact on what the artists could show, state and cirulate. The issues of censorship and the process of representing sex and exploring strategies to represent sex have become increasing interwined.
