BARBARA BUCKNER: Psychic Poetry Exemplified

by Victor Ancona

Videography, Aug. 1979, pp. 68-71

This article is an interview with Barbara Buckner, the 'Video Poet.' With introducing one of her works called Pictures of the Lost, an hour-long videotape shown at the Holly Solomon Gallery in New York's SoHo district, she shares her private visual world. She explains that her work is an attempt to render correspondences between physical light/color/objects and visible realities via electronic image generation. Barbara said, "My imagery comes through my poetry - within my heart and mind. I have a great deal of interest in using highly sophisticated imagery to produce works of profound spiritual significance." The coupling of the spirit with technology as exemplified in Barbara Buckner's work is a daring attempt toward total creation in a new medium, a naturall extension of the spiritual destiny of the artist.
