The Gaze from the Rearview Mirror: Amir Baradaran's Transient Taxi Ride

by Dayna McLeod

No More Potlucks, Jan. 2011, no. 13

In this interview, Amir Baradaran discusses his video-installation work Transient. The work was installed into various taxicabs in New York, and was intended to make the cab riders more aware of the space they were in, which they shared with the driver. In the interview, Baradaran speaks of the poor conditions faced by taxi drivers, many of whom are immigrants and people of colour, and the negative image of them presented by the media.
