Pleasure, Pain, and Politics Ellen Cantor in New York

by Dana Kopel

Art in America, Oct 19, 2016

Review of several New York galleries showing retrospectives of Ellen Cantor's work, including paintings, drawings, installations, and videos.

Kopel describes Cantor's practice as archetypal depictions of female sexuality and love combined with their inevitable downfall, cruelty, violence and pleasure. What becomes clear in Cantor's work is that sex and love are always political.
