The review covers Portuguese filmmaker Filipa César and his documentary Spell Reel, a found footage documentary of film reels produced by Guinea-Bissau resistance fighters during and after their war for independence from Portugal. The documentary had help from the National Film Institute of Guinea-Bissau and the Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art collaborated to digitize footage lost. The film focuses on colonial history and reflections on the past to move forward, with various leaders such as Chris Marker, Amilcar Cabral and Angela Davis making appearances.
