Notes On The Sacred
1990, 46:30 minutes, colour, English
Each summer, thousands of people congregate at a shrine in southern Quebec to celebrate the Feast of Ste. Anne, patron saint to the sick and disabled. Pilgrims, tourists, clergy and media intermingle; fair hopes, good intentions and commercialism collide. Notes On The Sacred focuses on these various participants, not with a view to documenting the place or events themselves, as much as seeing how people understand themselves in relation to personal history, place and spectacle.
