Lesbian and Gay Pride Day.
The most important day of the year or just another "white boy's club"?
This video is a marvellous visual record of this annual celebration shot in Toronto in 1993 and 1994, showing music and people of all diversities. But as we listen to the voices talking about AIDS, religion, spirituality, family and racism, we are provoked to ask, is the joy and unity of Pride Day just superficial? We've a long way to go yet before it becomes a reality in our communities.
Interviews include some of the women from bands The 7 Cent Posse and Random Order, musician Sherry Shute, Basil - a Muslim post-graduate student from Queen's University, Mario - a gay man from El Salvador and others. Also live footage of the U.K.'s Tom Robinson, comedian Elvira Kurt, The Lesbian and Gay Chorus and in Toronto to play a Pride /Week AIDS benefit, dance trio - Hi Bias.
