Our Normal Childhood

Lorna Boschman

1988, 11:25 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 098.02

In Our Normal Childhood two women recall painful early memories of abuse. Jean Burgess explores her incest experiences through paintings and personal stories. She began drawing her memories in an attempt to give them physical presence in her life. While pursuing those elusive memories, her style developed from child-like drawings to complex archetypical renderings. Lorna Boschman, the producer of the tape, claims her childhood was "normal". "All kids get beaten up, don't they?" The conversation is honest and direct.
