The Person by the Person
1984, 54:00 minutes, colour, English
Fifteen women from different countries who came to Canada over the past 30 years talk about the experience of immigration. Beginning with "expectations" and "reasons for coming to Canada", they conclude with the immigrants' ambivalent state of identity and the perspective gained by exposure to two sets of cultural norms. Their statements are intercut to create blocks of ideas, thus making the individual story and its personal significance secondary to the common experience and the development of the subject.
