This experimental video diary recorded by Marie-Helen Cousineau during her first winter in Igloolik is an appropriate piece with which to begin a video tour of the community. Shot mostly through her kitchen window, the dark, mysterious landscape slowly becomes alive and familiar as the sun returns to the village. The accompanying soundtrack further challenges Southern notions of the North as isolated and remote as shortwave transmissions from Finland, CBC radio reports on the Gulf War, Gordon Lightfoot tunes and local radio broadcasts in Inuktituk mingle and merge.
