DIE FETTECKE (The Fat Corner)

Michael Bielicky and Ricardo Peredo

1987, 40:00 minutes, colour

TAPECODE 246.04

This video takes an interest in a strange event which happened in the artschool at Dusseldorf. The Fat Corner which was placed in the former working space of Joseph Beuys was destroyed by someone. This act produced a strong reaction that is still reverberating. There is not only the question of how the damage occurred, but also, the repercussions created by this act. The act of liberty automatically becomes inseparable from the idea of Art.

The upright format of the TV monitor should compel the spectators to look at a perspective other than the one they are used to. The fact that one must first turn the TV monitor on its side could be helpful in the fight of the spectator, against the passivity which is created by watching TV!!
