Within Sight, Within Interpretation

Nina Czegledy

1992, 10:30 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 300.00

"In Greek etymology a symbol was a token, the present half of a broken table or coin or medal that performed its social and semiotic function by recalling the absent half to which it potentially could be connected. This potentiality was crucial because since the two halves could be reconnected it was unnecessary to yearn for the reconnection." - Umberto Eco
Within Sight, Within Interpretation was taped in Budapest and Toronto. The tape shows displacement, life's innate fragility and its ever changing phases. This is conveyed through the fragmented, yet interconnected, images of an old dying lady and her phantom-like daughter.
