Métamorphoses

1972, 25:00 minutes, B&W

TAPECODE 9297

Based on an acoustic experience by avantegarde composer Alvin Lucier, this work explores the phenomena resulting from the exaggeration of contrasts produced from successive recordings; a process which leads to the gradual deformation of original images and sounds. In the end, the soundtrack is inaudible but transformed into sounds typically produced by electronic instruments. Visually, the first edited version is filmed repeatedly, and eventually all images disappear and are replaced by black and white contrasts until the rhythms of the original editing remain.
