Bone Tree

Janet Hawkwood

1993, 11:00 minutes

TAPECODE 503.03

Dressed in a bright pink outfit and a wide brimmed straw hat, a woman walks quickly past a strange rock formation introducing herself to the camera. Sharing personal stories about her life on her ranch at Writing-On-Stone, Alberta, Edna Penrose talks and moves through her landscape with grace and dignity.
Bone Tree considers this unusual and powerful environment by looking at two women's very different perceptions of place. In stark contrast to Edna's world is that of the filmmaker's, resulting in a beautiful but haunting meshing of two very different realities.
