Sessions is a close examination of the psychoanalytic process, based on real transcripts from sessions conducted by the eminent psychiatrist Dr. Clifford Scott and an anonymous patient. In 1951, J.R. began to see Dr. Scott for psychiatric treatment. Her primary complaint was a fear of going out of her house. After a time, Dr. Scott began to record the sessions with a reel to reel tape recorder - and with J.R.'s permission.
Claire Coulter plays J.R. and Daniel MacIvor the Doctor. The script is culled directly from the transcripts of the analysis and focuses on a brief but dramatic period in the treatment. It is an intense, closely observed document of the profoundly intimate and at times disturbing relationship between two adults - one doctor and one patient.
