Ciara Hill, a 7 year old Oneida girl who lives on the reserve prays that she will be able to move so that she can attend a non-native school which has a band. Her dream is to become a great flutist. After her grandmother wins a house in an affluent neighbourhood during a high stakes Bingo game, they move and Ciara attends her new school. However, she soon realizes that she had everything she ever could want back on the reserve. When it comes time for her to try out for the band, she deliberately does badly so that she and her grandmother may move back home.
