He's internationally renowned, critically acclaimed, and an authority on life as an artist. Whether designing an album cover for jazz great Charles Mingus, photographing the late Dusseldorf artist Joseph Beuys, or framing the faces of such familiar Canadians as Northrop Frye, Karen Kain, and Conrad Black, Maggs clearly hasn't lost his zeal as he shops for inspiration in the flea markets of Paris.

After enjoying a successful career as an illustrator, graphic designer, and fashion photographer, Maggs, at age 47, decided to take up the camera seriously. His approach is stark, detailed and exhaustive; his subjects are usually human. Evoking Maggs's signature pieces of grid-like arrangements of portraits, often of the same person, filmmaker Annette Mangaard explains "I wanted to make a film not only about an artist but about the creative process of an artist, to question the nature of photography that examines a subject in such minute detail."
