The Strange Case of Peter K. (1974-2004) is an ambitious video installation. It comprises of fifteen different videos taking up every room in a house. The installation tells a fictional autobiography of Peter K. through the backdrop of world events.
The videos express fifteen different tales that would make up someone’s life. The audience will not experience each video sequentially, but instead by wandering the house they will find out more and more about Peter K. Each video is told in a very personal way allowing the audience to feel that they are entering the personal confidence of Peter K. Secrets are revealed, and stories that would only be shared between close friends are told.
Each video has a direct relationship to world media events, from the death of Elvis Presley to the collapse of the World Trade Center. This produces both a familiarity with the audience, and a sense that the biography has not only been structured but also told through the media. With the constant questions surrounding truth in the media, the audience is left wondering whom Peter K. is and if he really exists.
