Shelley Niro is a visual artist whose work has shown at the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), National Museum of the American Indian (New York City & Washington, DC), and has recently exhibited at the Museum of Indian Art Institute (Santa Fe). Niro is a Mohawk member of the Six Nations Reserve, and belongs to the Turtle Clan. Her films and videos use humour, irony, and an irreverent attitude toward narrative conventions to undermine stereotypes and communicate the experience of contemporary Indigenous people.
Seven short works are included in this educational compilation: Overweight With Crooked Teeth (1997); The Shirt (2003); Sky Woman With Us (2002); Tree (2006); rechargin’ (2007); Hunger (2008); and The Flying Head (2008).
