“HOME” is a documentary of Burmese refugees displaced in Malaysia. Malaysia is a country whose growth and prosperity would not have been possible without the labor provided by migrant workers. And among those nameless and faceless migrant workers are many undocumented refugees from Burma - a country still under the control of a military regime.

Each year, hundreds and thousands of displaced Burmese choose to flee from the horrors of human rights abuses and massacre by the military junta; many finding ways through jungles and rivers into neighboring Thailand and Malaysia. Despite reaching their destination of refuge in Malaysia, little do they expect to fall victim to police raids, imprisonment, physical abuse, and human trafficking in the hands of corrupted Malaysian authorities. Yet that is the reality for Burmese refugees who cross the border to enter Malaysia - a country that to this day has not endorsed the UN Refugee Convention. International appeals by human rights organizations like Human Rights Watch to the Malaysian government calling for an end to the human rights abuse taking place within its borders has only fallen to deaf ears. “HOME” is part of Project HOME – an effort to bring refugees and their allies together to raise awareness on this grave issue through the power of visual storytelling.
