Rune (Installation)

Randy & Berenicci

1986, 11:00 minutes, colour

TAPECODE 860.11

Rune weaves together an intricate fabric of artifact, icon, chance and adventure into a temple to the age of information built from the ruins of language, media and mass communication - a post-modern monument that conjures the myth and magic of exotic worlds and vanished civilizations. The entire piece appears to have been excavated and reconstructed on site, seeming to have literally been dug up from beneath the exhibition floor.

“… RUNE addresses the nature of language and its connection to the quality of the culture which embraces it… The artists have constructed a temple of sorts, a ruin of human communication which embodies both despair and optimism, which speaks to the culture which struggles at the base of the construct.” - Karen Knights,
Videoguide, Issue 37, Vol. 8, No. 2

There are 3 separate channels of looping visuals and audio in the RUNE installation. The combined audio of the 3 different versions forms the aural theme of the piece.

Rune A - Wind
Rune B - Telephone
Rune C - City Noise
