My Commonly Used Phrases

Robert Lendrum

2006, 08:56 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 326.02

In the self-portrait video actress Jacqueline van de Geer assumes the role of the artist and reads a list of phrases considered by survey respondents to be commonly used by Lendrum. The phrases, littered with slang and colloquialisms, are transformed into senseless idioms through van de Geer’s performance highlighting the disconnect not only between the artist and the performer, but between age, culture, context and geography.

My Commonly Used Phrases is one in a series of videos entitled Impostor: A Self-Portrait (326.07), in which Lendrum and van de Geer collaborate.
