This multilayered video combines performative acts with sampled video and a dj mix. Make Your Escape follows the artist as he visits familiar monuments of Aboriginal people in the Ottawa urban landscape and puts Vans sneakers on their feet. Witness’ mission is to offer these static representations a means to escape. Whether they choose to break away is up to them to decide.
Make Your Escape was made as part of the ‘Red Runner’ exhibition. For this exhibition the participating artists were given a pair of white Vans runners and asked to creatively indigenize them.
