Emergency Exit

Kyath Battie

TAPECODE 1027.02

Shot in one-take in available light, this short film explores nocturnal urban space where the mysterious presence of a stranger and his seeming captivity locks the viewer into a state of perpetual anticipation. Filmed at night near one of Toronto’s metro emergency exits, the film usurps our usual perception of common urban spaces and makes the landscape otherworldly, with science-fiction and even horror film-like qualities. This spatial encounter grips the viewer from beginning to end, with its slow pacing, and effective sound design, leaving a haunting echo long after watching the film.
