The word salary comes from the Latin world salarium, which means payment in salt. A far-flung trade in ancient Greece involving exchange of salt for slaves gave rise to the expression, "not worth his salt." The trading of gold for salt have condimented and paved the roads for the expansion of “western civilization”, colonialism and the raise of military powers.

Referring to the most common and some ancient Salt quotes & quotations, (NaCl) visually retraces this history using as a backdrop the bone-breaking low paid work of the Wayuu people in of sea-salt mines in the north of Colombia.

NaCl is third in the 3 part series The Business of Spaces.
