In the video Loneliness, a car wash ticket machine delivers a monologue considering it’s efforts to escape the dark grip of self-loathing and loneliness. Humour and absurdity are employed to explore real-life problematic situations; subsequently no optimism nor resolution is offered to counter the anxiety around these issues. Rather, the machine self-indulgently wallows about it’s personal life and embraces depression. This work is dedicated to artist Steve Reinke who’s monologues, personal analysis and subversive ideas have influenced Tyler’s work greatly.
